Theatre, Technology and Performance

I finally managed to finish my essay on feminism and I have now started my next essay on theatre, technology and performance. My approach will be slightly different than in other essays on this subject that I've written in the past. This time I'll be analysing my role as an audience member in three performances I've experienced that make use of technological mediums. I find it quite hard to describe my experience and at the same time keep the academic language conventions but I'm very excited about this essay. The bibliography is unbelievably interesting!!

Here are a few books on theatre, technology and performance that I would definitely recommend to everyone who would like to explore that subject.

Steve Dixon, Digital performance : a history of new media in theater, dance, performance art, and installation

Nick Kaye, Multi-media: Video, installation, performance

Alison Odey and Christine White, The potentials of spaces

Susan Broadhurst, Performance and Technology

Christopher Baugh, Theatre performance and technology: the development of scenography in the twentieth century

Arnold Aronson, Looking into the abyss: essays on scenography

and many many others...

I also recently came across this online journal that has some very interesting articles:

http://people.brunel.ac.uk/bst/non_ie.html

I'm currently reading about Olafur Eliasson's project entitled 'Weather Project' that was presented in Tate Modern in London.

Lastly, here are a few names of theatre practitioners that have developed the notion of technology in theatre and performance

Robert Wilson

Josef Svoboda

The Wooster Group

Builders Association

Stellarc

Tim Etchells (Forced Entertainment)

etc etc...

I'm currently reading about Olafur Eliasson's project entitled 'Weather Project' that was presented in Tate Modern in London.I have to admit that I had never though of weather like that before. You can find more information about this project here http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/eliasson/default.htm

I'll come back to this soon once I will have developed my essay a bit more!

Hope this has been at least a bit interesting... xx
